Son Of Westerner Draws Clear On Hurdle Debut
Jepeck (10g Westerner - Jenny’s Jewel, by Be My Native) appears to have found his calling over hurdles, as the Anthony Honeyball-trained bay romped home a 19 length winner at Bangor on Wednesday.
Ten times a winner between the flags, he was last seen finishing second to subsequent Scottish Grand National winner Takingrisks over fences in March. He made his belated hurdle debut in the Novices’ Hurdle over two miles and seven furlongs, with Rex Dingle riding him to make all the running. Quickening as they approached the third last, he extended his advantage to ten lengths by the final flight and was ridden out on the run-in.
Jepeck is entered to double up in a similar contest at Southwell on Friday, with a step up in class perhaps on the cards in the future. Owned by J Pike and bred by Dave Slattery, the son of Westerner is a full-brother to four-time winner Western Jo.
