Son Of Westerner Gains Another Black-Type Win At Punchestown
Maxxum (7g Westerner – Anshan Bay, by Anshan) secured his second valuable win of the season when landing the Listed hurdle on the third day of the Punchestown Festival.
Carl Millar rode Gordon Elliott’s charge to win a €100,000 hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival and was back aboard on Thursday. Racing prominently, he led from five out and drew clear approaching the final flight. He was ridden out on the run-in to win by two lengths and three quarters.
“It’s absolutely brilliant,” the winning rider said. “I was really looking forward to getting back on board him anyways. I tried to ride him very similar to when I won at Leopardstown on him, just keeping it simple on him. He got into a lovely rhythm and wasn't for catching.”
Owned and bred by Patrick Rabbitt, Maxxum is a full-brother to Grade 3 performer Magnium (Westerner).
