The Little Yank (Westerner) winning a bumper at Cork

Son Of Westerner Gains Back-To-Back Bumper Wins

The Little Yank (4g Westerner - Long Walk Home, by Presenting) overcame trouble in running to gain back-to-back wins at Cork on Sunday.

Second on debut last month, he ran out an impressive winner of a two mile bumper next time out and stepped up to two miles and three furlongs on his third start. Sent off favourite under Liam Quinlan, he chased the leaders and became short of room in the straight. Forced to switch left, he stayed on well to lead close home and won by half a length from Celine Soprana (Getaway), with another length back to Fortune Street (Soldier Of Fortune) in third.

Trained by John Ryan for Seamus Casey, The Little Yank was bred by Patrick and Morgan Cahalan. Speaking after the race, Ryan commented, “The way he was hampered he was very lucky he wasn't brought down and it is seldom a horse is blocked and will pick up again. We'll now either run him in a Listed bumper or a maiden hurdle. He has loads of foot and only for his speed he wouldn't have gotten out of trouble today.”
