Son Of Westerner Gains Deserved Maiden Win

The consistent Sunset West (5g Westerner – Sunshine Haven, by Sunshine Street) gained a deserved success when taking Sunday’s Five-Year-Old Maiden at Lingstown.

Placed on all four of his previous starts, the Colin Bowe-trained bay was last seen finishing a close second at Tinahely. Barry O’Neill rode him towards the back of the nine horse field, improving to lead approaching six from home, but was joined by the favourite Lostcityofgold from two out. Soon back in front, he ran on strongly from the final fence to win by three lengths.
