Son Of Westerner Gains Second Win Over Hurdles
The Gordon Elliott-trained Western Honour (7g Westerner - Cailins Honour, by City Honours) made his trip to Ayr worthwhile when winning the Novices’ Hurdle on Monday in the colours of Cheveley Park Stud.
Carrying a penalty for his maiden hurdle win in December, the bay was sent off favourite under champion jockey Richard Johnson. Racing close to the pace, he was shaken up to lead before two out and was driven clear from the final flight to beat Welsh Rarebit (Dylan Thomas) by three and a quarter lengths.
Western Honour was purchased by Tom Malone for £120,000 after his impressive point-to-point win for Stuart Crawford. Bred by Edward Morrissey, he is out of a half-sister to Grade 1 Champion Novice Hurdle winner Castlekellyleader (Supreme leader) and Listed performer Cailin Supreme (Supreme Leader), herself the dam of Sefton Novices’ Hurdle victor Black Jack Ketchum (Oscar).
