Son Of Westerner Impresses On Hurdle Debut
Western Run (5g Westerner - Stitch Pockets, by Montelimar) produced an impressive performance to win his first start over hurdles at Downpatrick on Monday.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained bay was sent off favourite for the two mile and three furlong maiden hurdle, having placed on all his starts in bumpers. Jonathan Moore rode him to chase the leaders, with his mount travelling well as they produced a challenge approaching the final flight. Soon in front, he eased clear on the run-in and won by 13 lengths unchallenged.
Owned by the North Star Syndicate, Western Run was bred by Stephen Curran out of Stitch Pockets; herself twice a winner over hurdles.
