Son Of Westerner Impresses With Second Bumper Win
Ribble Valley (6g Westerner - Miss Greinton, by Greinton) impressed when defying a penalty to win the bumper at Ayr on Tuesday.
The Nicky Richards-trained bay won by seven lengths on debut in early November and was then pitched at Listed level, finishing sixth after stumbling at a crucial stage of the race. Brian Hughes retained the ride on their latest start, holding his mount up in a field of ten and made good headway to track the leaders approaching the three furlong marker. Shaken up to lead with over a furlong left to race, he was pushed clear to score by five lengths on the line.
The winning favourite, owned by David Wesley Yates, now looks destined for a return to black-type company. Bred by Pat and Oliver McCarthy, Ribble Valley is a half-brother to two multiple winners by Milan.
