Son Of Westerner Justifies Favouritism In Maiden Hurdle
Point-to-point winner Whacker Clan (6g Westerner - Kolaliya, by Kahyasi) got off the mark under rules when landing Thursday’s maiden hurdle at Tipperary.
Sent off favourite under Rachael Blackmore, the Henry De Bromhead-trained bay raced prominently through the three mile contest and was asked to challenge approaching the final flight. Staying on well to lead 110 yards from home, he scored by a length and three quarters from Run For Pat (Ocovango).
Speaking after the race, Blackmore said, “He's a galloper and there is plenty of fun to be had with him over the summer. That's only his third run for Henry so hopefully he can continue to improve.”
Whacker Clan joined Henry de Bromhead after his impressive eight length win at Grennan for John Halley. The son of Westerner was bred by Robert Norton.
