Son Of Westerner Justifies Favouritism On Chase Debut
Useful hurdler Maxxum (6g Westerner - Anshan Bay, by Anshan) made a winning start over fences in Thursday’s Beginners Chase at Tipperary.
Trained by Gordon Elliott for owner/breeder Patrick Rabbitt, the son of Westerner came into the race with three hurdle wins to his name, including an impressive success at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival. Sent off favourite on his chasing debut, the bay was ridden prominently by Keith Donoghue and asserted after the second last. Ridden clear on the run-in, he led by three lengths on the line.
Maxxum is a full-brother to Grade 3 performer Magnium (Westerner).
