Son Of Westerner Justifies Favouritism On Hurdle Debut
Cool Survivor (5g Westerner - Pale Face, by High Chaparral) made a smart start over hurdles Tuesday’s maiden hurdle at Punchestown.
Gordon Elliott bought the bay after winning a four-year-old maiden on debut for Cormac Doyle and the son of Westerner finished second in a bumper on his first start for new connections. Partnered by Jack Kennedy on his seasonal return, the favourite raced prominently throughout and was pushed along turning for home. Clear at the final flight, he was ridden out to win by three lengths and three quarters, as Patricks Hill (Mahler) claimed runners-up honours.
Bred by Mr JP Finlay, Cool Survivor carries the familiar colours of Gigginstown House Stud.
