Maxxum (Westerner) Wins The Listed Hurdle At Leopardstown

Son Of Westerner Lands Valuable Listed Prize

Maxxum (7g Westerner – Anshan Bay, by Anshan) produced a smart performance to land the valuable Listed handicap hurdle on the first day of the Dublin Racing Festival.

Gordon Elliott’s charge boasted previous course and distance form at Leopardstown, having won another valuable hurdle at the Christmas Festival last season. Partnered by Carl Millar on Saturday, he raced prominently throughout the three mile contest and asserted after the third last. Shaken up approaching the final flight, he was ridden when challenged on the run-in and dug deep to prevail by three parts of a length.

Saturday marked a fourth win over hurdles for Maxxum, who made a winning chase debut at the end of last season. Patrick Rabbitt’s homebred is a full-brother to Grade 3 hurdler Magnium (Westerner).
