Son Of Westerner Makes Easy Work Of Chase Debut
No Rematch (7g Westerner - Loadsofability, by Supreme Leader) made a bright start over fences when running out a comfortable winner of Friday’s Novices’ Handicap Chase at Chepstow.
Successful over hurdles last season, the Evan Williams-trained bay was sent off favourite under Adam Wedge and led for much of the way. Travelling the best of the field with four fences left to jump, he quickened when challenged approaching three out and ran on from the last to win by three and a half lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He was always going to be a chaser and needs proper deep ground.”
Owned by Mr and Mrs William Rucker, No Rematch was bred to excel over fences, given that he is a half-brother to two useful chasers. The son of Westerner was bred by Mrs Claire Doyle out of a half-sister to Grade 2 winning chaser See U Bob.
