Son Of Westerner Proves Much Too Good In Maiden Hurdle

Wicked West (5g Westerner - Wilde Sapphire, by Oscar) made an impressive start for Dr Richard Newland on Saturday when running out a wide margin winner of the two mile maiden hurdle at Ffos Las.

Sent off favourite under Sam Twiston-Davies, the bay made all the running and extended his advantage from three out. Running on well from the final flight, he won by 14 lengths.

Now owned by Michael Tudor, the son of Westerner had made a promising hurdle debut in March, when finishing second at Kelso. He was bred by J Thornhill and J Lenihan out of a winning half-sister to Graded chaser Enjoy Responsibly (Flemensfirth).
