Snake Oil (Westerner) Wins His Bumper At Listowel

Son Of Westerner Provides Trainer With Landmark Success

Snake Oil (5g Westerner - Impulsive Ita, by Supreme Leader) provided Barry Connell with his first winner as a trainer when taking Sunday’s bumper at Listowel.

Sixth over hurdles on debut in July, Connell’s charge was sent off favourite for Sunday’s two mile contest and tracked the leader for much of the way under Finian Maguire. Asserting with six furlongs left to race, the bay went clear approaching the two furlong marker and ran on strongly to win by seven and a half lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning owner/trainer said, “Snake Oil had a lovely run in a maiden hurdle at Galway first time out and Finny said he was even a bit green today. He's a super jumper and I would say there's a fair bit more improvement in him.”

A €64,000 store sale purchase by Gerry Hogan, Snake Oil was bred by Mr C Reaney and is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Impulsive Star.
