Ribble Valley (Westerner) wins over hurdles at Hexham

Son Of Westerner Remains Unbeaten Over Hurdles

Ribble Valley (6g Westerner - Miss Greinton, by Greinton) made it two from two over hurdles when running out an impressive winner of Wednesday’s Novices’ Hurdle at Wetherby.

Twice a bumper winner last season, the Nicky Richards-trained bay won by nine lengths on his seasonal return earlier in the month. He remained over two miles on Wednesday and was sent off joint-favourite under Brian Hughes, who rode him to track the leaders. Making good headway to lead at the third last, he went clear approaching the final flight and scored by 11 lengths on the line.

Owned by David Wesley Yates, Ribble Valley was bred by Pat and Oliver McCarthy. A full-brother to the son of Westerner sold to Aiden Murphy for €90,000 at this year’s Derby Sale.
