Son Of Westerner Wins Rules Debut With Ease
Dixie Flyer (4g Westerner - Prairie Moonlight, by Monsun) made his first start under rules a winning one, as he took Thursday’s bumper at Down Royal in the colours of breeder Martin Baker.
The Stuart Crawford-trained bay led from the early stages under Ben Crawford and was pushed along from two furlongs out. Keeping on strongly inside the final furlong, he won by two and three quarter lengths in comfortable fashion.
Success came as no surprise to the winning trainer, who later said, “Dixie Flyer is a fair horse and we do have a nice bunch of bumper horses. Benny gave him a great ride and had plenty left at the finish. He's tough and hardy- a typical Westerner.”
Martin Baker bred Dixie Flyer in partnership with Brian Baker, out of Graded performer Prairie Moonlight.
