Son Of Yeats Adds Hurdle Win To Fine Record
The ultra-consistent Collooney (5g Yeats - Amber Trix, by Scribano) justified favouritism in the two mile Novices’ Hurdle at Bangor on Tuesday.
A first winner in the JP McManus silks for young trainer Olly Murphy when winning his bumper in November, Collooney finished second on his hurdle debut in December and the winner of that race, Brandon Castle (Dylan Thomas), has since won again.
Ridden prominently by Aidan Coleman, the bay took second with two flights to go, improving to lead at the last and stayed on well to win by half a length, with 11 lengths back to the third horse. His record now reads 1-2-1 under rules, while he finished second on his sole point-to-point start for Denis Murphy. The son of Castlehyde Stud sire Yeats was bred by Paudge Cullen.
