Son Of Yeats Adds To Impressive Record
Mortlach (7g Yeats - Belle Brook, by Alderbrook) showcased his versatility and consistency once again on Wednesday, when making a successful return to hurdles at Kelso.
The Fergal O’Brien trained bay was last seen recording his fourth chase win from six starts over fences, but boasted a previous win and second from his only starts over hurdles. Sent off favourite for Wednesday’s Novices Hurdle, he was ridden to make all in the two mile and five furlong contest by Jack Hogan. Shaken up to go clear when joined at the penultimate flight, he went on to score by a comfortable five lengths.
Owned by Richard Hames and Doug Pocock, Mortlach has won or been placed on all but one of his starts under rules, while he also scored between the flags for Sean Doyle. The likeable son of Yeats was bred by Rowland Crellin out of Belle Brook, whose four-year-old Meyo (Walk In The Park) is yet to run.
