Fugitives Drift (Yeats) Wins The Beginners Chase At Cartmel

Son Of Yeats Battles For Debut Chase Success

Sunday saw useful hurdler Fugitives Drift (6g Yeats - Shebeganit, by Alflora) make a winning start over fences in the Beginners’ Chase at Cartmel.

A three-time winner over hurdles, Nicky Henderson’s charge was sent off favourite under James Bowen and raced prominently throughout the two mile and one furlong test. Headed at the second last, he regained the advantage at the final fence and ran on strongly to win by a length and a half.

“That was very good,” Henderson later commented. “Henry Ponsonby [owner] is delighted as well, I think it's his first winner there.”

The son of Yeats was bred by JA Lane and R Lane and comes from the family of Gay Brief and Gaye Chance.
