Son Of Yeats Confirms Class Under Penalty
Tupelo Mississippi (5g Yeats – Misleain, by Un Desperado) led home a 1-2 for Castlehyde Stud sire Yeats in Saturday’s bumper at Newcastle.
The Brian Ellison-trained bay carried a penalty for last month’s impressive 13 length winner on the track’s all-weather surface and was returning to turf, with the ground described as soft. Danny Cook rode him close to the pace and took the lead six furlongs from home. Coming under pressure as Onward Route (Yeats) produced a challenge three furlongs out, he was ridden out to prevail by half a length on the line. The front pair finished 17 lengths clear of the field.
Phil Martin, who owns the winner with Julie Martin, bought Tupelo Mississippi after finishing second on debut for Colin Bowe. The son of Yeats was bred by Robin Ellerbeck Bloodstock Ltd out of a half-sister to the useful Schuh Shine.
