Son Of Yeats Defies Top Weight In Feature Hurdle
Kilfenora (8g Yeats - Blazing Liss, by Supreme Leader) made it two from two this season when landing Saturday’s Grade B feature hurdle at Navan.
The Eddie Harty-trained bay won a similar contest last time out at Naas and remained over the trip of two and a half miles, with Mark Walsh retaining the ride for owner JP McManus. He chased the leader for much of the way, taking the lead approaching three from home and was ridden out on the run-in to hold off Alfa Mix by a length and a quarter on the line.
The front pair finished 18 lengths clear of the field and after welcoming back the top weight winner, Harty commented, “Kilfenora is a smart horse. Hurdling is his game. Not too many horses gain two graded successes like that in a season.”
Kilfenora was bred by Niall Flynn out of dual Listed winner and Grade 1 placed Blazing Liss.
