Son Of Yeats Follows Up At Punchestown
Longhouse Poet (5g Yeats - Moscow Madame, by Moscow Society) made a winning start for new connections when taking Friday’s bumper at the Punchestown Festival.
An impressive winner of a Boulta maiden in January for Sam Curling, he was since purchased privately and made his first start under rules in the colours of Sean and Bernardine Mulryan, from the stable of Martin Brassil. Third in the betting on the off, the bay initially led under Derek O’Connor, but was headed after two furlongs. Happy to settle behind the leaders, he improved to lead over two furlongs from home and was ridden to extend his advantage to two and a half lengths on the line.
The favourite, Monkfish, was bought for £235,000 after winning his point-to-point, and provided nice form when finishing second on Friday. The happy winning trainer Martin Brassil commented after the race, “He has thrived since we've got him. He won his point well and jumps great. He's a real winter horse and we will go jumping with him in the autumn.”
Bred by Mr John Duggan, Longhouse Poet is out of a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1 runner-up Well Presented.
