Son Of Yeats Follows Up In Novice Chase at Cheltenham

Ginny’s Destiny (7g Yeats - Dantes Term, by Phardante) is set for a step up in class after recording back-to-back wins in Saturday’s novices’ Chase at Cheltenham.

Paul Nicholls’ charge ran out an impressive winner over course and distance last month, but faced a competitive field in the Class 2 chase over two and a half miles. He made virtually all of the running under Harry Cobden, jumping well throughout, and was ridden from the second last. Digging deep on the run-in, he kept on to beat the Grade 2 winning favourite Grey Dawning (Flemensfirth) by three parts of a length.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Ginny's Destiny puts them to the sword, and he keeps galloping. He had improved a lot at home, and he worked brilliantly the other morning.”

On future plans, Nicholls mentioned a Grade 2 chase over three miles at Warwick in January. Owned by Gordon and Su Hall, Ginny’s Destiny’s sole previous start at Graded level saw him finish second to the aforementioned Grey Dawning (Flemensfirth).

Bred by Mrs Caroline O’Driscoll, the son of Yeats is a half-brother to top-class chaser God’s Own (Oscar).
