Son Of Yeats Makes History In Grade 2 Hurdle
Younevercall (10g Yeats - Afarka, by Kahyasi) produced a fine performance on to become the first dual winner of the Grade 2 bet365 Select Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday.
An impressive winner of the 2019 running, Kim Bailey’s charge was sent off favourite under David Bass and raced prominently for much of the race. Shaken up to challenge at the second last, he led at the final flight and kept on strongly to deny Indefatigable by half a length, as the pair drew eight and a half lengths clear of the field.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “He was brilliant. He ran really well at Cheltenham in the Stayers’ Hurdle and Ciaran Gethings, who rode him there, was delighted with him. He said he cantered through the race.”
Saturday marked a fifth win over hurdles for Younevercall, who gained his first career success in a bumper for Tom Lacey. Bred by Paddy Kennedy, he continues a terrific season for Castlehyde Stud sire Yeats.
