Son Of Yeats Makes Perfect Debut
Northern Poet (4g Yeats - Crowning Virtue, by Jimble) made a favourable impression on debut when winning Tuesday’s bumper at Lingfield.
13 lined up for the two mile contest, with Leighton Aspell holding the eventual winner up at the back of the field. The bay made headway to take a prominent position approaching the two furlong marker and was ridden to lead inside the final furlong. Staying on well, he won by a length and a quarter from Global Harmony (Flemensfirth), who finished four and a half lengths clear of the favourite in third.
Trained by Nick Gifford for the Hope Springs Syndicate, Northern Poet was bred by David Russell and becomes the first winner out of the mare, a half-sister to dual Grade 2 winner Magnanimity.
