Dunboyne (Yeats) Wins His Maiden Hurdle At Thurles

Son of Yeats Relishes Stamina Test Over Hurdles

A step up in trip saw Dunboyne (6g Yeats - Patsy Cline, by Definite Article) make it third time lucky over hurdles at Thurles on Monday.

Successful for Sean Doyle in a five-year-old maiden at Tattersalls, the bay has since been placed on both his starts over hurdles for Gordon Elliott and owner Stephen O’Connor. Stepping back up to two miles and seven furlongs in the Holycross maiden hurdle, he was ridden by Keith Donoghue to chase the leaders and was travelling well in second approaching the penultimate flight. Leading before the last, he went clear on the run-in and success never looked in doubt, as rivals could only narrow his advantage.

Speaking after the race, Donoghue said, “It was a good performance - obviously he had two good runs over two miles and he was bought to be a three-mile chaser so it was nice to get a win out of the way over hurdles.

The son of Yeats becomes the first winner bred by Denis Cleary out of dual hurdle winner Patsy Cline.
