Son Of Yeats Rolls Back The Years In Galway Hurdle
Tudor City (10g Yeats - She’s Our Mare, by Commanche Run) provided Tony Martin and John Breslin with another day to remember when winning the valuable Grade A Galway Hurdle for a second time.
Victorious in the 2019 running, the evergreen bay made a winning return to action at Punchestown in May and was last seen finishing a fine third at the Curragh. He was positioned in midfield by Liam McKenna, who pushed his mount along from three out and improved into third turning for home. Ridden from the final flight, he ran on well to lead inside the final furlong and kept on to win the €270,000 feature by three parts of a length.
Speaking after the race, elated owner John Breslin said, “I'm shaking with delight. I thought he'd run well but the ride young Liam gave him was absolute perfection. The horse is a legend and it's just fabulous.”
Tudor City became the first dual winner of the Galway Hurdle since 1983, and the oldest winner since 1947. Bred by Denis Reddan, the son of Yeats has won over €550,000 in prize money for connections.
