Pure Steel (4g Yeats – Beaus Polly, by Presenting) continued a fruitful season for Derek O’Connor and JP McManus when rallying to win Sunday’s four-year-old maiden at Belclare.

The son of Yeats was sent off favourite under Eoin Mahon, who gave the newcomer a patient ride and waited until three out to track the leaders. Joining the leader at the final fencer, the bay dug deep on the run-in to lead by a neck on the line, as the game duo drew ten lengths clear of the third.
