Talented Son Of Getaway Records Easy Victory

No Ordinary Joe (5g Getaway - Shadow Dearg, by Beneficial) easily accounted for his rivals when justifying favouritism in Tuesday’s Novices’ Hurdle at Southwell.

A debut bumper winner, the Nicky Henderson-trained bay next finished fourth behind subsequent Grade 1 winner My Drogo (Milan) in the Grade 2 Supreme Novices’ Trial. Stepping up to two and a half miles on his first start of the year, he made most of the running under Nico de Boinville and was shaken up approaching the second last. Clear before the final flight, he was eased down close home to win by a length and three quarters.

A return to Graded company may now be on the cards for the JP McManus-owned five-year-old, who was bred by Sean Reilly. The son of Getaway is out of an own-sister to Grade 2 winners Shadow Eile and Corskeagh Royale, both of whom were placed at Grade 1 level.
