Talented Son Of Milan Delights On Chase Debut
Grade 1 winning hurdler If The Cap Fits (8g Milan - Derravaragh Sayra, by Sayarshan) made a perfect start to his chase career when taking Sunday’s Novices’ Chase at Ffos Las.
Last year’s Grade 1 Stayers’ Hurdle winner was lightly-raced last season, but won the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle from just two starts and was making his first start since January. He faced just two rivals for the two mile and five furlong contest, but they were fellow Grade 1 winner Fiddlerontheroof and Grade 1 runner-up Emitom, who also had the benefit of experience over fences.
Daryl Jacob rode Harry Fry’s charge last of three, making headway from four out and disputed at the third last. Soon in front, the bay ran on well on the run-in to win by seven and a half lengths, in comfortable fashion.
The delighted winning trainer later commented, “I'm absolutely thrilled. It’s hugely exciting and I couldn't have asked for much more really.”
Owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, If The Cap Fits was bred by Liam Gilsenan out of a homebred half-sister to talented chaser Duke Of Lucca (Milan).
