Two More Six-Figure Sales For Order Of St George

Order Of St George’s impressive start between the flags saw consignors reap rewards at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale, where his two offerings fetched a total of £500,000.

Exciting debut winner Buckna (4g Order Of St George – Close Flame, by Westerner) proved a highlight on the evening, as he was knocked down to Highflyer Bloodstock’s Tessa Greatrex for £350,000. Just last month, Greatrex bought Triumph Hurdle hope Mighty Bandit (Order Of St George) for €420,000 and confirmed that her most recent purchase would also be trained by Warren Greatrex for Jim and Claire Bryce.

“It was quite a price, but he is the most gorgeous horse and we all loved him,” the agent said. “We heard about him prior to the sale and we loved his performance. We’ll get this one home and if he needs time he will get it.”

Eddie O’Leary and Gerry Hogan were among the underbidders for Buckna, who was offered by Gerald Quinn’s Caherty Stables. Quinn trained the Order Of St George gelding for Philip McBurney, who bought him as a three-year-old with Ian Ferguson for £55,000.

Future Prospect (4f Order Of St George – Mhuire Na Gale, by Norwich) was another newcomer to impress last weekend and rewarded handler Denis Murphy with a sale price of £150,000 on Thursday. Gerry Aherne signed the docket on behalf of Con and Neil Sands’ Bronsan Racing for the filly, who was bred by Margaret Treacy.

Another handler to enjoy a fruitful evening was Matthew Flynn O’Connor, whose Additional Time (5g Milan – Calming The Storm, by Shirocco) sold to John McConnell for £160,000. The Drumlin Bloodstock-bred bay ran out a commanding winner of a five-year-old maiden at Punchestown last month. Earlier in the evening, the same consignor sold The Big Westerner (5m Westerner – Augusta Bay, by Oscar) to Peter Molony’s Rathmore Stud for £120,000. Bred by Southeast Bloodstock, O Hickey and L Gleeson, the well-related mare beat a well-backed favourite on debut earlier this month.
