Unbeaten Son Of Milan Headlines Sunday Treble

The exciting Iron Bridge (6g Milan - Chit Chat, by Bob Back) extended his unbeaten record to four from four when making an impressive chase debut at Carlisle.

Jonjo O’Neill’s charge was sent off favourite for the two and a half mile chase, with Jonjo O’Neill Junior donning the colours of the late Trevor Hemmings. Racing towards the back of the field, the bay made headway from three out and was ridden into second at the penultimate fence. Leading at the last, he kept on well to win by eight and a half lengths, with another 15 lengths back to the third.

“Iron Bridge was a nice horse last year, winning two novice hurdles.” The winning rider later commented. “It was a good performance. He's got a grand temperament and is a three-miler all day long, but he likes soft ground and has a touch of class over two and a half.”

Bred by Sean Murphy, Iron Bridge completed a quickfire double for his sire, with the well-bred Wearelongterm (5g Milan - Fair Ina, by Taipan) making a winning debut in the five-year-old maiden at Tattersalls.

Ridden to track the leaders by Barry O’Neill, the half-brother to Fayonagh joined the leader at the second last and was ridden to assert at the final fence. Running on strongly, he scored by two lengths.

Bred by Paramount Farms, Wearelongterm was bought by Elliott and Mouse O’Ryan as a three-year-old for €195,000.

Mi Lucky Cailin (4f Milan - Consider Her Lucky, by Silvano) completed a treble on the day for the Grange Stud sire made a winning debut in the fillies’ bumper at Galway.

The William McLernon-trained newcomer raced towards the back of the field for much of the way and improved to chase the leaders three furlongs from home. Producing a challenge soon after, she was ridden approaching the final furlong and ran on well to score by a length and a quarter. Mel Monroe (Walk In The Park), an impressive point-to-point winner in March, finished second on rules debut, with a seven length gap back to the third.

The winning trainer later revealed he expected a big performance and said, “Mi Lucky Cailin is a smart mare and this wasn't really a surprise. She was very impressive in a schooling bumper at Tipperary ten days ago. She's tough, genuine and loves pleasing you.”

Owned by the Deadman’s Inn Syndicate, Mi Lucky Cailin was bred by Mrs Lisa Doran.
