Walk In The Park Gelding Remains Unbeaten In Valuable Bumper
Regent’s Stroll (5g Walk In The Park – Pretty Puttens, by Snurge) confirmed himself an exciting prospect when running out an impressive winner of the valuable Goffs UK Spring Sale Bumper at Newbury on Saturday.
Paul Nicholls’ charge made a winning debut in November and was sent off joint-favourite to follow up in the £100,000 contest, despite carrying a penalty. A number of horses remained in contention with two furlongs left to race, with Regent’s Stroll rallying to lead approaching the final furlong and soon drew clear. Keeping on strongly, he went on to win by five lengths under Harry Cobden.
Speaking after the race, Nicholls’ assistant trainer Charlie Davies said, “We've always thought Regent’s Stroll was very smart, but we were nervous about having to give most of them a stone. He's obviously very good and you couldn't be more impressed with that. He was doing his best work at the end and that would be it for the season - what more does he need to do? Who knows what the future holds, but I'd say he's the best bumper horse we have and if he hadn't been qualified for this race, he may have gone for a championship bumper at Cheltenham or Aintree.”
Owned by Chris Giles, Regent’s Stroll was bought by Nicholls and Paul Malone for £175,000. The Walk In The Park gelding was bred by Mrs Rita Kent out of a half-sister to Denman.
