Walk In The Park Mare Strides Clear On Debut
The well-bred Walk On The Moone (5m Walk In The Park - Jolivia, by Dernier Empereur) made a perfect start to her career when drawing clear in the Mares’ Bumper at Kilbeggan on Thursday evening.
The Willie Mullins-trained newcomer was sent off a short-priced favourite under Patrick Mullins, who positioned the bay in mid-division. Making headway from the four furlong marker, she was travelling best of the field two furlongs from home and soon led. Ridden clear inside the final furlong, she won by five and a half lengths.
“The further we went the better she has gone,” the winning rider commented after the race. On future plans, he added, “We'll see what Willie says, there are a couple of winners bumpers early next month but she could go jumping as well. It's a great start anyway.”
Bred by Philip Hore, Walk On The Moone carries the colours of the Whitegrass Racing Syndicate. The daughter of Walk In The Park is a sister to dual Grade 3 winning chaser Mount Ida (Yeats), while their four-year-old sister Butterflycollector (Flemensfirth) is in training with Colin Tizzard.
