Well-Bred Daughter Of Yeats Wins Bumper In Style
Suvretta (4m Yeats - Barchetta, by Flemensfirth) built on a promising debut to justify favoritism in Thursday’s bumper at Clonmel.
Trained by Willie Mullins for the Supreme Horse Racing Club, she finished third at the end of August despite suffering some interference. Patrick Mullins took the ride once again, riding her to chase the leaders and improved into second with five furlongs left to race. Travelling the best of the field approaching the final furlong, she led and was ridden clear to win by four and a half lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning jockey commented, “It is a great fillies' pedigree and I'm not sure whether we go jumping now as she would only be a novice through the winter then. We could wait until next year to go jumping and we might look for a mares' winners' bumper next.”
Suvretta was bred by Michael Carroll out of Barchetta, a Flemensfirth sister to talented hurdlers William Henry and Sesanta.
