Well Bred Newcomer Completes Double For Yeats

Sure Touch (5g Yeats - Liberthine, by Chamberlin) completed a double for his sire and trainer on Thursday when making a winning debut in the bumper at Wincanton.

Olly Murphy’s charge had presumably shown promise at home, given that he was sent off second favourite, and was ridden to chase the leaders by Aidan Coleman. He made easy headway from two furlongs out and soon led, before going clear inside the final furlong, recording a winning margin of three lengths.

Sure Touch hails from an important family for owner/breeder Robert Waley-Cohen, with his dam being a talented half-sister to the top-class Long Run.

Olly Murphy also landed the first race on the card with Fabrique En France (6g Yeats - Knar Mardy, by Erhaab), who gained a deserved success in the two mile maiden hurdle.

The eventual winner raced prominently throughout, improving to track the leader from three out and was pushed along to lead from the second last. Ridden out approaching the final fence, he ran on well on the run-in to score by two and a quarter lengths, comfortably.

Bought by his trainer and Aiden Murphy for £100,000 after placing in two point-to-points for Warren Ewing, the son of Yeats now carries the colours of Noel and Valerie Moran. He becomes the first winner bred by Amanda Lysaght out of Knar Mardy and comes from the family of Hors La Loi III and Cyborgo.
