Well-Bred Son Of Milan Builds On Promising Debut
The well-bred Writteninthesand (5g Milan - Sommer Sonnet, by Taipan) built on a promising debut to win the five-year-old maiden at Curraghmore on Easter Sunday.
The Denis Murphy owned and trained bay finished third in a similar contest at Nenagh in February and faced 16 rivals on his latest start. Ridden by Jamie Codd, he led from the last and ran on well to beat longtime leader Clondaw Dancer by three lengths, the pair pulling 12 lengths clear of the third horse.
Writteninthesand will presumably now return to the sales ring to return a profit on his €55,000 store price. The son of Milan is a half-brother to Grade 1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle winner Poetic Rhythm (Flemensfirth), out of a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Bog Frog.
Later in the day at Oldcastle, the Peter Flood-trained Supreme Escape (5g Milan - Silent Whisper, by Presenting) completed a double for his sire when making a successful return in the five and six-year-old maiden.
Fourth on debut in November, he made almost all of the running under Anthony Fox and extended his advantage close home, beating Usurper (Fame And Glory) by three lengths.
Bought as a store for €62,000 by Aidan O’Ryan and Chris Donnelly, Supreme Escape comes from the family of talented chaser Colnel Rayburn.
