Bonttay (Westerner) Wins The Listed Mares Bumper At Cheltenham

Westerner Mare Adds Listed Bumper To Unbeaten Record

Bonttay (4f Westerner - Ben’s Turn, by Saddlers’ Hall) extended her unbeaten run to three when landing the Listed Mares’ Bumper at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Impressive on debut in August, Fergal O’Brien’s charge doubled up on her first trip to Cheltenham last month and was sent off favourite to complete the hat-trick. Racing towards the back of the field under Paddy Brennan, she made good headway on the outside from four furlongs out. Asserting with ease after the two furlong pole, she kept on well to hold off stablmate Leading Theatre by a length and a quarter.

“Bonttay has always worked really well,” the winning trainer commented after the race. “It was always the plan to come back here, even from Market Rasen, and she's absolutely hosed up.”

Owned by her trainer and CB Brookes, the daughter of Westerner was bred by Pat Connell and becomes the first black-type produce of her dam Ben’s Turn.
