Neon Diamond (Westerner) Wins The Mares’ Bumper At Limerick

Westerner Mare Goes One Better In Bumper

There should be more to come from Neon Diamond (5m Westerner – Silvers Promise, by Presenting) after the daughter of Westerner gained a deserved win in the mares’ bumper at Limerick on Thursday.

Runner-up on both her starts for Colin Bowe, she returned at Leopardstown last month to fill the same position on rules debut for Gordon Elliott, with the winner Magic McColgan (Flemensfirth) earning black-type next time out. Reunited with Harry Swan on Thursday, she raced prominently throughout the two mile and three furlong contest and was asked to challenge upon passing the two furlong marker. Leading approaching the final furlong, she kept on well to win by three and a quarter lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Today's ground wasn't ideal but she is tough and honest. They'll have plenty of fun with her and she is a filly to look forward to.”

Neon Diamond is owned by Liam Clancy and was bred by Mrs Kathleen Wickham.
