Eve Moneypenny (Westerner) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Punchestown

Westerner Mare Makes Perfect Start Under Rules

Eve Moneypenny (5m Westerner - Fruitful Venture, by Fruits Of Love) produced a smart performance on rules debut to win Saturday’s maiden hurdle at Punchestown.

Colin Bowe’s representative previously placed between the flags and dropped down to two and a half miles on her first start over hurdles. Settled at the back of the field by Jody McGarvey, she began to make headway from five out and was pushed along from the second last. Disputing before the final flight, she was ridden to lead on the run-in and ran on well to win by a length and three quarters going away.

“Eve Moneypenny always showed plenty of ability,” assistant trainer Brendan Walsh later said. “We said we would give her a chance over hurdles and she was good there. She is getting better with racing.”

Bred by Darren Collins, Eve Moneypenny carries the colours of Milestone Bloodstock.
