Yeats Mare Makes Her Mark Over Fences
The remarkably consistent Little Miss Poet (7m Yeats - R De Rien Sivola, by Robin Des Champs) gained her first win over fences at Ludlow on Thursday.
Purchased privately by owner MW Pendarves after her fine second on chase debut last time out, she was reunited with Richard Johnson and raced at the back of the field. Jumping well throughout, she led from halfway and began to draw clear with four fences left to jump. Even money favourite Kupatana (Westerner) did her best to bridge the gap, but could only come within seven lengths of the winner on the line.
Johnson later commented, “Little Miss Poet is a very straightforward mare who has done it well. The owners have just bought her as a broodmare prospect and hopefully she can have a good season.”
Trained by Philip Hobbs and previously raced by breeders Michael and Norma Tuckey, Little Miss Poet is now a five-time winner, and has finished in the first three in 12 of her 17 starts.
