Yeats Mare Powers Clear At Punchestown
A change of tactics brought out the best in Choice Of Words (6m Yeats - Douryna, by Generous), who ran out a clear winner of the mares point-to-point bumper at Punchestown on Monday.
Trained by Martin Brassil for Mrs Jane Dwyer, the daughter of Yeats finished second last time out and was sent off favourite on her quick return. Pat Taaffe rode her close to the pace, asserting from four furlongs out and began to quicken from before the two pole. Pushed along to go clear entering the final furlong, she extended her advantage to 13 lengths on the line.
Speaking after the race, young Taaffe commented, “She's a tough, gutsy, mare and no doubt she'll do good things in the future.”
Choice Of Words is a full-sister to point-to-point winner Durouyn (Yeats) and was bred by RW Russell out of black-type chaser Douryna.
