Yeats Mare Wins Bumper For Delighted Breeder
The Paul Hennessy bred, owned and trained Heaven Help Us (5m Yeats - Spare The Air, by Trans Island) sprung a surprise when landing the two mile mares’ bumper at Navan on Saturday.
Facing ten rivals, including Cheveley Park Stud’s well-regarded Larquebuse, Heaven Help Us was ridden towards the back of the field by Niall Prendergast, who switched his mount right to challenge with three furlongs left to race. Improving into fourth approaching the final furlong, the bay ran home strongly to lead close home and beat the aforementioned favourite by three parts of a length, with a further four lengths back to the third horse.
A delighted Paul Hennessy commented after the win, “It is some buzz as I bred her and have her all the way through. She’s a dote and her mother was exactly the same.”
