As Time Goes By Romps In Santa Anita Allowance

The regally-bred As Time Goes By (4f American Pharoah x Take Charge Lady, by Dehere) added a second straight runaway victory her record on Sunday at Santa Anita with a nine length Allowance romp.

Stretching out to a mile after her six furlong maiden win, As Time Goes By shadowed the leader throughout as she galloped comfortably under Joel Rosario. The Bob Baffert trainee took over the lead in mid-turn and looked like she was out for a gallop as she easily pulled away from the field with every stride.

It was the second win in four starts for the Coolmore-owned filly, who has never been worse than third.

Bred by Orpendale and Chelston, As Time Goes By is the youngest foal for three-time Grade I winner and Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady. That excellent racemare is also the dam of champion Will Take Charge and Grade I winner Take Charge Indy. Also turning into a top dam of producers, the mare is the granddam of champion Take Charge Brandi, three-time Grade I winner Omaha Beach, and Group I-placed Courage Under Fire.

The family also saw another update earlier in the week thanks to Mendelssohn when his colt out of a granddaughter of Take Charge Lady's dam Felicita sold for $130,000 at the Keeneland January Sale.

It was a big week for American Pharoah around the world with success at both the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and the Keeneland January Sale in addition to multiple impressive winners, led by the stakes winning Thankful.
