Choice Of Words (Yeats) Wins Her Hurdle Debut At Galway

Black Type Yeats Mare Impresses On Hurdle Debut

Black-type performer Choice Of Words (6m Yeats - Douryna, by Generous) made all to run out an impressive winner of Saturday’s maiden hurdle at Galway.

An impressive winner of a Punchestown bumper, the Martin Brassil-trained bay was last seen finishing second in a Grade 3 in April and was sent off favourite on her hurdle debut. Darragh O’Keeffe took the ride and looked the likely winner at the second last, keeping on strongly on the run-in to win by seven and a half lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “We always thought a fair bit of her. We were thrilled with her run in the Grade 3 bumper at Punchestown and I was always looking forward to her going jumping hurdles.” On future plans, he added, “If she continues to improve, which I hope she would, and with experience, she could develop into a Cheltenham mares' novice hurdle type.”

Owned by Mrs Bernardine Mulryan and Mrs Paul Shanahan, Choice Of Words was bred by RW Russell out of his homebred black-type chaser Douryna.
