Black-Type Yeats Mare Wins Maiden Hurdle In Good Style
Smart bumper mare Lilting Verse (6m Yeats - Sorcillera, by Anzillero) ran out a stylish winner of the mares’ maiden hurdle at Ludlow on Thursday.
The Fergal O’Brien-trained bay won a Listed mares; bumper last season and stepped up to two miles and five furlongs on her first start since April. Settled in midfield by Connor Brace, she began to make headway with three flights to jump and drew clear with the leader from two out. Ridden soon after, she led at the last and drew clear on the run-in to beat the favourite Between Waters (Walk In The Park) by six lengths. The leading pair finished 39 lengths clear of the field.
Lilting Verse began her career with Donal Hassett, for whom she placed on both her starts in point-to-points. Bred by Greg Stafford, the daughter of Yeats is now owned by Baker, Burford, Haynes and Plumb.
