Camelot Colt Proves Too Good In Group 2 Contest
Nerium (4c Camelot - Nicolaia, by Alkalde) proved a class above his rivals when running out a commanding winner of the Group 2 Carl Jaspers-Preis at Cologne on Sunday.
An 11 length winner last September, he finished a close second to Walderbe (Maxios) in the Group 2 Premio Jockey Club on his final three-year-old start and tackled the same mile and a half trip on Sunday. The Peter Schiergen-trained bay raced towards the back of the field under Bauyrzhan Murzabayev and was shaken up to lead from two furlongs out. Running on strongly, he scored by two and a half lengths, with another neck back to Group 1 winner Sunny Queen (Camelot) in third.
Nerium was bred by Frau Ursula and Jurgen Imm and races under their Stall Nizza banner. The son of Camelot is one of four Stakes horses produced by Nicolaia, herself a black-type half-sister to German Derby victor Nicaron.
