American Mike (Mahler) Tops The Tattersalls Cheltenham April Sale

Coolmore NH Sires On Top At April Sale

Coolmore NH sires were responsible for the two highest-priced lots at the Tattersalls Cheltenham April Sale at Park Paddocks on Friday afternoon.

Sean Doyle’s impressive debut winner American Mike (4g Mahler - American Jennie, by Lord Americo) took top billing, after being knocked down to Bective Stud and Gordon Elliott for £195,000. Eddie O’Leary bid on behalf of Noel and Valerie Moran’s operation and said, “He carried himself very well and was well thought of by everyone who saw him. He also did the job well in his point-to-point.”

Doyle expects big things from the son of Mahler. “He’s been a lovely horse to be involved with,” the handler said. “From the day we brought him home as a store he did everything right and I think he has a big future. He’s got all the class and could win over any trip.”

Cormac Doyle was another consignor to enjoy a significant result, when Gordon Elliott went to £175,000 for another debut winner in Cool Survivor (4g Westerner - Pale Face, by High Chaparral).

The son of Westerner ran out a comfortable four length winner at Cork, where the second finished another 20 lengths clear of the field. Doyle’s only problem was waiting until point-to-pointing returned, he explained, “He's a very settled horse, had always done everything right, but he was ready to go in February and we had nowhere to go so just kept him ticking over. With luck, the point-to-pointing came back just in time.”
