Crystal Ocean Head On

Crystal Ocean In Demand At Tattersalls Ireland

Demand for the progeny of Crystal Ocean remained high as his second crop of foals went through the ring at the Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale.

Oliver Loughlin reaped the rewards with Crystal Ocean last year, when selling a colt for €80,000, and on Monday he sold a full-brother to the star colt for €72,000. Joey Logan was the successful buyer of the son of Hour Before Dawn (Yeats), herself a half-sister to Grade 2 runner-up Crystal Glory (Fame And Glory).

Sabrina Harty came close to matching that figure when going to €70,000 for a Crystal Ocean colt from The Beeches Stud.

A son of Crystal Ocean was the highest-priced foal at last year’s sale at €120,000 and consignor Coolmara Stables continued their success with the Beeches Stud sire when selling Tuesday’s offering for €67,000 to Timmy Hillman. The lot in question was a filly and other notable results for Crystal Ocean fillies included the €42,000 paid by Brooklodge Farm for a filly from Clonbonny Stud.

Last year’s sales topper mentioned above was bought by Kevin Ross and Ben Case and the agent struck for the sire’s second crop this week, this time with George Case. The pair went to €50,000 for Yellowford Farm’s colt out of Dream Pioneer (Milan). Ross added another Crystal Ocean colt to his haul when joining with Killeen Glebe for a €42,000 buy from Brett Merry.

Others who secured Crystal Ocean’s progeny at the sale included Brown Island Stables, JC Bloodstock, Oak Tree Farm, Highflyer Bloodstock, Rathmore Stud, Ballinaroone Stud and Richard Frisby.

The Beeches Stud sire finished third in the sire table at the end of the week, with only older proven sires bettering his results.
