Four Wheel Drive Wins G3 Futurity
Exciting colt Four Wheel Drive (2c American Pharoah x Funfair, by More Than Ready ) was a stakes-winner on debut and kept his undefeated record intact when taking out the $150,000 Grade III Futurity Stakes at Belmont on Sunday.
Leading trainer Wesley Ward is no stranger to success with the offspring of American Pharoah having already won a Group III event in France with his high class colt Maven and he also puts the polish on Four Wheel Drive.
He was sent out favourite and settled in second before powering clear to win by three lengths and has now banked over $130,000 in prizemoney.
The six-furlong Futurity is a ‘Win and You’re In’ event for the GII Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
“Hopefully, he comes out of the race well,” said part-owner Mike Hall. “It will be our first Breeders’ Cup starter. We had Shang Shang Shang last year, but she came up a little off the day of the race, so hopefully, this one makes the dream come true.”
A $525,000 Fasig Tipton Saratoga Yearling purchase, Four Wheel Drive is the second winner for stakes-winning More Than Ready mare Funfair, who was covered again by American Pharoah this year.
